Quest to Conquer Concrete – #NaPoWriMo20 – Day 9

#NaPoWriMo 2020, Other Poetry Add comments

Hey there!

I think I can categorically state I haven’t conquered concrete poetry by any stretch of the imagination, but when I am asked to try I like to oblige 😉

It seems that I am becoming somewhat of a short poetry writer for this year’s challenge. Sorry if that’s annoying anyone?! I did write more than one entry for Day 9’s challenge, however.

Concrete poetry is the kind “in which the lines and words are organized to take a shape that reflects in some way the theme of the poem” as the NaPoWriMo site explains. I am no whizz at trying to make the computer replicate that though, so I will pop up some pictures of how I wrote the poems in my sketchbook, then type them conventionally so that you can read them without cricking your neck!

Inside my boring turn of phrase –

My failure to amaze –

Beats a human heart.

Have you succumbed to the craze

Of lying to my face

So mistrust can start?

I saw a bloom upon its stem,

Nodding like Spring’s emblem.

I saw its leaf all new and green,

I saw its petals’ burnished sheen,

I knew it held strength in its root

And here great wonders were afoot…

Happy Birthday!

Four today!

I hope all your friends came to play?

(And all that chocolate’s ok?!

Won’t make you ill or wobbly…?)

Obviously that last poem is one without social distancing being in place 😉 Youngest and Eldest had their birthdays in isolation and lockdown, respectively, this year. They did very well with the unfairness of it all – probably cushioned by the fact that there was still a chunky chocolate cake made for each of them AND I relented on my “no Nerf guns” decree.

*slaps forehead*

#LockdownMadeMeDoIt

I hope any of you that had birthdays recently (or have one coming up) still found (find) something about the day to relish. I know it definitely isn’t all rainbows out there (!) but there are still sunbeams that visit our livingrooms and birds singing on the branches.

Big hugs to you all, and I’ll be back with my own warblings for Day 10 😉

A very, very difficult medium! And a bit too gimmicky for me to ever have a go at though you managed it well.

Wow! That’s a cool visual format. I think you did very well!
