Hi 😊
Today’s prompt had twenty parts to it, but I only tried to hit the first five (as I have the kids about, and peace is hard to come by, yada yada. That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it…)
- Begin the poem with a metaphor.
- Say something specific but utterly preposterous.
- Use at least one image for each of the five senses, either in succession or scattered randomly throughout the poem.
- Use one example of synesthesia (mixing the senses).
- Use the proper name of a person and the proper name of a place.
I started with a metaphor I have used before, and then wrote the rest of the poem trying to incorporate the other 4 steps. I’ll let you be the judge of how well I did, and I’ll catch you for Day 6 as soon as I can!
Trying Not To Leg It
Spiders are chess queens:
Scuttling with sly plans
To take over your every living hour
With thoughts of their next move.
Eight eyeballs boring into your mind…
Each tickle a tactile hint.
Of where they may land next –
A silk signature strewn
With silent precision
Cruelly caresses careless cheeks.
A sixth sense for their archetypal shape
Keeps you alert.
Thankful for their lack of noise
(And wings)
But still hampered by their stealth;
No stench (like cockroach cronies)
To track their breeding grounds.
A sighting’s felt in the chest.
Montaffera can never limber up enough
To be equal.Â
No matter how legendary she once was:
The livingroom is theirs.
