Hey there 🙂
“Today, I challenge you to write a poem that uses the form of a list to defamiliarize the mundane” [from the NaPoWriMo site]
Ok then…
My knees have caps of ice.
My fingernails fog blue
As my breath clouds white;
The bumps of gooseflesh sprawl
tiny
jagged
hairs
That lift like needles
In every place a razor’s ever gone
(And some it hasn’t)
I do not dare
To open my mouth too long:
Every tooth will scream at each intake
Of crisp, bitter air.
I speak in icy shards.
My knuckles: swathed in wool
But still growing taught and dusty-skinned
Before the inevitable cracks appear.
I walk on foreign toes:
Strange drifting extremities
That, though muffled, transmit woe.
The seams of my jeans chafe
At chilled inner thighs –
Fashion feigning function.
The ‘perfect’ pale
Will be bright-blotched tonight.
See you tomorrow!
