Conversing With Myself (#NaPoWriMo Day 7)

Howdy!

My optional task for today was to write down all the many parts of my identity and then let a powerful part of myself chat to a disempowered one:

You are no scandal.
Playing small does not negate
The whispering.
They said what they did –
History stands –
You don’t need to crawl home,
Worry about old wounds:
A scab you ‘need’ to pick.

But I’m in turmoil!
Don’t you SEE how many pointless years have passed?!
I wasn’t grateful,
Did not engage well,
Felt always obligated
Though still mired in whys and hows.

Steadfastly ‘other’.
Too soon, too loud and broken…

Steps are forgotten,
Bonds you forged are stronger than
A test of cells.
And yes:
They’ll draw conclusions;
But your life is much more precious than
A misconception
Voiced.
